Legenda Banyuwangi
Patih sidapaksa tinggal di tanah yang bernama Jawa Timur. He was a patih from Blambangan kingdom. Ia adalah seorang patih dari kerajaan Blambangan. Patih Sidapaksa felt in love with Sri Tanjung, a beautiful girl from a village. Patih Sidapaksa merasa cinta dengan Sri Tanjung, seorang gadis cantik dari desa. Sidapaksa’s mother did not agree with his son’s lover. Sidapaksa ibu tidak setuju dengan anaknya's lover. Apparently, his mother hated her because Sri Tanjung was not an aristocrat. Rupanya, ibunya membenci dia karena Sri Tanjung itu bukan aristocrat. It is a very important status in her society. Hal ini sangat penting status di masyarakat. But love is love, isn’t it? Tetapi cinta adalah cinta, bukan? Nothing can’t stand its way. Tidak ada yang tidak bisa berdiri dan jalan. Sidapaksa did not care about his future wife status and married her. Sidapaksa tidak peduli kepada masa depan status dan istri menikah dia. A couple months after the marriage, the wife got pregnant. Beberapa bulan setelah menikah, istri got pregnant. They were very happy waiting for the childbirth. Mereka sangat senang menunggu kelahiran.
One day in the morning, the king called patih Sidapaksa. Suatu hari di pagi hari, raja disebut patih Sidapaksa. He ordered his patih to get a flower at Mount Ijen for his queen. Ia memerintahkan kepada patih untuk mendapatkan bunga di Gunung Ijen untuk ratu. The flower was believed could make younger the person who bathed with it. Bunga itu diyakini bisa membuat orang yang lebih muda mandi dengannya. Therefore, Sidapaksa went to Mount Ijen, left his wife and his mother for couple of months. Oleh karena itu, Sidapaksa pergi ke Gunung Ijen, kiri istri dan ibunya selama beberapa bulan. Meanwhile the baby’s birth was getting closer. Sementara bayi lahir telah mendapatkan menuatu. Sri Tanjung stayed with her mother in law. Sri Tanjung tinggal dengan ibunya di hukum. When the baby boy was born, her mother in law helped her took care the baby. Ketika bayi laki-laki lahir, ibunya hukum dalam membantu dia mengambil perawatan bayi. The reason she did that was not that she cared about her grandson. Sri Tanjung telah terkejut mengetahui suaminya datang rumah dengan marah. “What’s going on?” she asked. "Apa yang terjadi?" Ia bertanya. “You’re having affair and killed the baby.” Sidapaksa accused her. "Anda memiliki perindustrian dan membunuh bayi." Sidapaksa terdakwa dia. His hand pointed his keris to his wife. Tangannya yang keris itu ke istrinya. “For the sake of Gods, I did not having affair and killed the baby.” She argued. "Sebab demi Allah, saya tidak memiliki urusan dan membunuh bayi." Dia berpendapat. “I don’t believe you,” Sidapaksa said. "Saya tidak yakin," ujar Sidapaksa. He dragged her wife to the river and said, “You threw him to the river”. Dia menyeret dia istri ke sungai dan berkata, "Anda melemparkan dia ke sungai". “I did not do those things,” Sri Tanjung kept her argue. "Saya tidak melakukan hal-hal tersebut," Sri Tanjung dipelihara bantah dia. But it seemed she could not persuade her husband anymore. Tetapi nampaknya ia tidak dapat meyakinkan suaminya lagi. So she said” if you don’t believe me, you can kill me and throw my body to the river. Maka ia berkata "jika anda tidak percaya saya, Anda dapat membunuh saya dan saya melemparkan tubuh ke sungai. If the water smells fragrant, it means I am innocent. Jika air bau wangi, itu berarti saya bersalah. Let Gods be my witnesses”. Biarlah Allah menjadi saksi ". Sidapaksa stabbed his keris to her chest until she died then he threw her body to the river. Sidapaksa ditikam keris itu kepadanya dada sampai dia meninggal maka dia melemparkan tubuhnya ke sungai. But strangely, the water did not turn to red and smell fishy when her blood got in to it. Tapi aneh, air tidak berubah menjadi merah dan bau amis darah ketika dia mendapat ke dalam. Instead, the blood cleaned the river and smelt fragrant. Namun, darah dibersihkan sungai melebur dan wangi. Sidapaksa was shocked and yelled like a crazy person” Wangi.. Sidapaksa terkejut dan yelled seperti orang gila "Wangi .. banyu.. banyu .. wangi.. wangi .. banyu.. banyu .. wangi..”. wangi .. ". It means “fragrant.. It means "wangi .. water.. air .. fragrant.. wangi .. water.. air .. fragrant..”. wangi .. ". Suddenly in the middle of river, two flowers showed up, the big ones and the small ones. Tiba-tiba di tengah sungai, dua bunga menunjukkan, maka besar dan kecil. The big flower was incarnation of Sri Tanjung and the small flower was incarnation of her baby. Bunga yang besar adalah penjelmaan Sri Tanjung dan bunga kecil adalah jelmaan dari bayi. Then the small one talked to Sidapaksa” Father, I am your son. Maka kecil untuk berbicara satu Sidapaksa "Bapa, aku anak laki-laki. My mother was innocent. Ibu saya telah bersalah. Grandmother drowned me to this river”. Nenek saya tenggelamkan ke sungai ini. " Sidapaksa felt stood. Sidapaksa merasa berdiri. He realized he had made a huge mistake. Dia menyadari dia telah melakukan kesalahan besar. However, his wife and his child would never live again. Namun, istri dan anaknya tidak akan pernah hidup kembali. And he could only cry and regret. Dan ia hanya bisa menangis dan menyesal. After the incident, the area around the river called banyuwangi. Setelah kejadian, area di sekitar sungai yang bernama Banyuwangi. In Javanese language, banyuwangi means fragrant water. Dalam bahasa Jawa, Banyuwangi berarti air wangi.
